Chapter 2 replaces The Biryani Centre’s Southfields site but occupies a larger neighbouring unit on Replingham Road, formerly home to Sarkhel’s. The original New Malden restaurant continues to trade.
Owners Radhika Kamaraj and Thiru Rajendran, who founded The Biryani Centre as a lockdown delivery brand, say Chapter 2 marks a new format they hope to roll out.
The menu continues to centre on the signature dum biryani – aged basmati, saffron milk and caramelised onions served with aubergine curry and raita – alongside regional dishes such as Chettinad curries, Old Delhi butter chicken and Southfields-only options including Malai broccoli and murgh malai tikka.
A five-course tasting menu guides diners through chaat-style snacks, tandoor-grilled plates, a biryani tasting and warm dessert – a format not available in New Malden.
A new cocktail list reimagines classics with Indian ingredients, herbs and spice blends.
Interiors feature reclaimed Chettinad materials, antiques, an open kitchen and Marapachi dolls.
“With Chapter 2, we want to express The Biryani Centre in a new way – warm, personal and rich with flavour,” says Kamaraj. “Whether it’s a quick meal or the full tasting experience, we want guests to feel they’re being cooked for with love.”
