Taking its name from the Berlin word for neighbourhood, Kiez Kebab will offer a streamlined menu focused on three kebabs – veal, chicken and a vegan option – served in pide bread.
Completing the experience will be a curated selection of German and Austrian beers, wines and batched cocktails.
Billed by a website holding page as a ‘neighbourhood kebabery’, the 30-cover fast-casual space, designed by Red Deer Architects, is described as modern and intimate.
Design details include concrete, glass and steel balanced with walnut accents, clean lines and a lively atmosphere enhanced by a bespoke sound system from Friendly Pressure.
The Berlin-style döner kebab emerged in the early 1970s as a portable adaptation of the famed Turkish meat dish, which is traditionaly slow cooked on a revolving vertical spit.
Hugely popular in the German capital and across the country, Berlin-inspired kebabs have seen limited uptake in the UK restaurant scene despite the wider popularity of kebabs.
The notable exception is international franchise business German Doner Kebab, which operates more than 150 restaurants across the UK.
Founded by high-profile Turkish chef Kemal Demirasal in 2022, The Counter is understood to have closed at the end of last year.
Its sister restaurant of the same name in Soho continues to trade.
