South Liverpool restaurant Wavertree Town Hall will reopen this spring under new ownership.

The large Wavertree High Street venue closed its doors last year, citing Covid and the challenges of having taken on a building that required significant works.

It has now been taken over by local bar and restaurant operator Harrison Group, which has a portfolio of venues in the city including Harrison’s Bar & Kitchen, Dwntwn and Scruffy Murphy’s.

Designed by local architect John Elliot Reeve, the neoclassical building – constructed in stone with a stucco finish – was completed in 1872.

The site will continue to be split across three areas. The front of the Town Hall will operate as a cosy, traditional pub serving locally sourced, hearty dishes such as steak and ale pie and scouse. There will be no TVs in this space, and it will feature an open fire.

This will be complemented by a larger back bar, which will show major live sporting events and feature dart boards. Sundays will be a key day at the Town Hall, with Sunday lunch served across both ground-floor spaces.

Upstairs will house a function lounge. This is the largest of the three areas, with a total capacity of around 100 guests.

“We are well into our refit of this site and look forward to bringing this much-loved old building back to life. Wavertree Town Hall is such a stunning building, and to be given the chance to take on this project as custodians is a real privilege,” says Harrison Group business development manager Nicola Halton.

Works are expected to be completed in time for the venue to reopen later this spring. The site will create around 20 new full and part-time jobs.
