Lady of the Grapes has chosen Borough for its second London site, which will incorporate an underground ‘speakeasy-style’ wine bar when it launches in early May.

Founded by Parisian restaurateur and wine expert Carole Bryon, Lady of the Grapes made its debut in Covent Garden in 2018, focusing on organic and natural wines while championing female producers.

Lady of the Grapes SE1 will continue this ethos with modern French bistro-style cooking led by head chef Matyáš Plzák – formerly of Frog by Adam Handling, Frenchie and Mãos – paired with more than 400 wines.

Set to open within the Menier Chocolate Factory, south of Borough Market, the two-storey, Grade II-listed Victorian building will house a 60-seat ground-floor restaurant with a 20-seat terrace.

The basement wine bar, named Forbidden Fruit, will seat an additional 45 covers and offer a charcuterie menu alongside the broader Lady of the Grapes wine list, including multiple wines by the glass.

“We are so excited about this new chapter for Lady of the Grapes,” says Bryon.

“We’re looking forward to launching a bigger space to welcome more people, bring joy through good, honest French cooking and, most importantly, continue to support the talented women making delicious wine all over the world.”
