Danish restaurant group Sticks’n’Sushi is set to open its second northern England restaurant on Vicar Lane in Leeds early next year, subject to planning.

Bringing the brand up to 18 UK locations, the new site will form part of the heritage-led Vicar Lane regeneration scheme.

The three-storey, grade-II listed building spans 8,839sq ft and will feature a 220-cover dining room, a 30-cover terrace, and an upstairs bar with private hire space.

The menu will be available à la carte and as generous set menus for dine-in and takeaway with sharing dishes of sushi, sashimi, salads and grilled sticks.

Drinks will include sake, Japanese teas, contemporary cocktails, premium spirits, beer, and the brand’s own-label yuzu pale ale.

Interiors are designed by Berlin-based Diener & Diener, combining Japanese architectural principles with Scandinavian aesthetics.

“We are delighted to be joining this development; Vicar Lane is one of the most vibrant retail and leisure hubs in Leeds and aligns with our dining experience from lunch through to dinner,” says Andreas Karlsson, SticksʹnʹSushi Group CEO.

“Continued UK expansion is central to our growth strategy, and we look forward to building a new team and becoming part of the Leeds community.”

Charles Newman, asset management director at Town Centre Securities PLC, owners of the Vicar Lane Scheme, adds: “The arrival of Sticks’n’Sushi will further elevate the premium retail and leisure brands represented at Vicar Lane and across the wider area.”

“Sticks’n’Sushi’s international reputation and high-quality offer align with our long-term strategy of curating a best-in-class asset that enhances the appeal of the area as a key city centre destination.”

Founded in Copenhagen in 1994 by half-Danish, half-Japanese brothers Jens and Kim Rahbek and Thor Andersen, Sticks’n’Sushi now operates 33 restaurants worldwide, including 12 in Denmark, three in Berlin, and 17 in the UK.
