Founders YolanDa Brown and Adetokunbo Oyelola have launched a £1m crowdfund to support the move to the Angel Central development, which is set to take place in May.
Hosted on the Shopify platform, the rewards-based crowdfund is offering a wide range of perks including various tiers of membership, meals in advance and a gold pass to the venue’s VIP launch.
As before, the menu will be focused on African, Caribbean and South American flavours.
Guests can expect slow-cooked Caribbean curries, one-pot dishes with rice and peas, and sharing plates such as soul arepas and the jerk wings pit.
Drinks will include signature cocktails such as the Coconut Mama, alongside classic serves, wines and beers.
The new Islington venue will also feature the brand’s signature purple and gold stage and host a wide-ranging lineup of live music, comedy and spoken word.
Programming will span jazz, soul, gospel and reggae, alongside a mix of established favourites, emerging artists, international touring acts, and family-focused concerts for younger audiences.
Regular events will include Soul Mama’s Motown and Afrobeats live brunches, as well as recurring fireside chat sessions throughout the month.
Soul Mama launched in 2024 at The Gantry and has since welcomed more than 50,000 guests.
The business previously raised £248,148 via Kickstarter, breaking a Guinness World Record.
“With Soul Mama, we are on a mission to spread love one venue at a time, and we see Angel Central as the perfect home for our next chapter,” says YolanDa Brown OBE DL.
“Our very first Soul Mama location was originally meant to be in Islington, so in many ways this feels like a homecoming.
“Having received so much love for Soul Mama in Stratford, we cannot wait to bring that same energy to the heart of north London and continue growing our community.
“It will be a real joy to bring more music, culture and connection to such a vibrant and spirited destination.
“Islington is about to get even more soul.”
Soul Mama’s has also announced a second new opening at Westfield Stratford City set to open in August.
