Denmark-founded Japanese restaurant group Sticks’n’Sushi will make its debut in the Czech Republic later this year with a site in Prague city centre.

In a first for the McWin Capital Partners-backed group – which has 17 restaurants in the UK, 12 in and around the Danish capital and a further three in Berlin – the Jungmannovo Square site will be a joint venture with Sushi Group s.r.o., a recently incorporated Czech Republic-based company.

Designed by Diener + Diener in collaboration with interior designer Susan Palanki, the three-floor, 160-cover restaurant will fuse Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian design.

The menu will reflect the group’s signature offering, available both à la carte and as set menus for dine-in and takeaway.

Guests can expect a broad selection of sushi, sashimi, salads and grilled sticks designed for sharing, alongside a drinks programme spanning sake, Japanese teas, contemporary cocktails, premium spirits, beer and the brand’s own-label rice lager made in collaboration with Danish brewery Mikkeller.

“We are delighted to bring Sticks’n’Sushi to a new city, opening more opportunities for our team to be part of our journey,” says group CEO Andreas Karlsson. “What defines Sticks’n’Sushi is our commitment to people, quality and consistently high standards of hospitality – something we see strongly reflected in Zbyněk and his team, making this a naturally strong partnership. Prague is a compelling next step as we build momentum across Central and Northern Europe, alongside our established presence in Berlin and upcoming opening at Copenhagen Airport.”

Zbyněk Pokorný, CEO of Sushi Group CZ s.r.o., added: “We are very pleased to be bringing Sticks’n’Sushi to Prague. We believe its unique concept, combining Japanese cuisine with a Danish approach to hospitality, will be a great addition to the city’s dining scene. Our aim is to create a place that guests will return to not only for the food, but for the overall experience.”

Founded in Copenhagen in 1994 by half-Japanese, half-Danish brothers Jens Rahbek and Kim Rahbek, alongside Thor Anderson, Sticks’n’Sushi is one of Denmark’s most established and respected restaurant groups.

It made its UK debut in 2012 and currently operates a dozen restaurants in the capital alongside five regional sites.
