Hosted by chef and social media personality Poppy O’Toole, the awards took place at Landing Forty-Two in London’s Leadenhall Building yesterday (27 April).
The awards, celebrating the operators and venues shaping London’s dining scene, span three categories, including OpenTable Icons, the Restaurateur’s Choice, and the People’s Choice.
At the centre of the awards is the Icons list, featuring 26 restaurants selected by a panel of industry experts and critics.
The list includes a mix of long-established venues, such as Core by Clare Smyth, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay and The Ledbury, alongside newer restaurants including Brutto and Mambow.
Additional awards were decided through diners’ and hospitality professionals’ voting.
In the People’s Choice categories, The Ledbury won ‘Bucket List’, The Plimsoll was named ‘Gastropub of the Year’, and Singburi received ‘Opening of the Year’. St John was awarded ‘Neighbourhood Gem’, while Rita’s won ‘Standout Service’.
In the Restaurateurs’ Choice awards, David Moore at Pied à Terre was named ‘Everyday Hero’, Dara Klein at Tiella Trattoria & Bar received ‘Up & Coming’, and cocktail bar group Three Sheets won the ‘Innovation Award’. Bubala received the ‘Impact Award’, and Berners Tavern was recognised for the ‘Restaurant Design’ award.
The Icons list was selected by a panel of industry judges, including Adam Hyman, owner of Code Hospitality and The Good Food Guide; Ben Benton and Freddy Clode, hosts of The Go-To Food Podcast; as well as Ben Lippett; Jenny Lau; Jimi Famurewa; Lorraine Copes; and Seema Pankhania.
The list will be integrated into OpenTable’s platform to help diners discover and book featured restaurants.
“It was a privilege to celebrate the chefs, front-of-house teams and restaurateurs whose passion keeps London’s dining culture so vibrant,” says O’Toole.
“From neighbourhood gems to destination dining rooms, the OpenTable Restaurant Awards winners show the breadth, creativity and resilience of the city’s restaurant scene today.”
Laure Bornet, senior vice president of international growth at OpenTable, adds: “Our first-ever OpenTable Restaurant Awards winners are the places defining London’s culture right now, setting global standards and creating experiences that stay with diners long after they leave.”
“At a time of real pressure for the industry, celebrating and backing the people and places raising the bar matters more than ever, and we’re proud to champion these standout spots to diners.”
