Opening tomorrow (2 May) in London’s Brixton, the new concept will be smaller than a typical Pizza Express restaurant and feature a menu of ‘fan favourites’ including dough balls and pizza options such as the American Hot and Sloppy Giuseppe.
Further openings under the new format are already planned with sites in Finsbury Park and Earl’s Court set to launch in the coming months.
“The opening of Pizza Express Brixton is a big occasion for us, as we continue to be bold and innovate in unexpected ways,” says Paula MacKenzie, CEO at Pizza Express.
The restaurant’s interior design will feature twists on the brand’s iconic black and white stripes, alongside touches of Carrara marble and a lighting system that changes as the day goes on, with warm lighting for morning and day and cooler tones to reflect dusk and evening light.
Artwork will pay homage to PizzaExpress Live’s music heritage by nodding to performances and artists including Brixton musicians Ruben Fox and Mark Kavum.
“I love that we’ve been able to choose Brixton for this opening – whether it’s your new destination for lunch time favourites or late-night bites, this is Pizza Express pizza however you want to enjoy it,” MacKenzie adds.
Pizza Express has previously smaller footprint locations in Hong Kong, the success of which led to the launch of the casual dining group’s Pod concept in the UK in 2024, which now operates three sites across the UK, all in Tesco Extra car parks.
In March this year the group also launched a new delivery concept called Mac & Wings in a bid to capitalise on the significant consumer demand for chicken.
The macaroni cheese and chicken wings offering has rolled out nationwide with Deliveroo with menu items including chicken wings come with hot honey, lemon & herb, BBQ, or buffalo, and served with dips of garlic and herb, pizzanaise, sweet and smoky BBQ, spicy tomato and chilli, or garlic butter.
