More details have been released for New York-based chef Jody Williams’ upcoming Covent Garden restaurant, Buvette, which opens early next month.

Set within the former St John Bakery site in Neal’s Yard, Buvette’s second London incarnation will operate as an 80-cover, all-day ‘gastrothèque’, with additional seating on a yard-side terrace.

Menu details remain limited, but example dishes include steak tartare, salad niçoise, cassoulet and coq au vin served with thin frites.

Buvette’s famed croques will be served hot from the oven, as well as tarte tatin.

An exclusively French wine list will be complemented by a traditional-leaning cocktail list.

The interior will capture the 400-year history of Neal’s Yard, ‘embracing its rustic, understated charm’.

Design details include exposed brick walls, a vintage tin ceiling, warm wood finishes, a marble bar and an eight-cover communal table.

Buvette is described as being designed for spontaneity, catering for everything from morning coffee and lunch to post-theatre cocktails and dinner.

Williams launched Buvette in New York’s West Village in 2011 and has since expanded the concept to Paris, Tokyo and Seoul.

A James Beard Award-winning chef and restaurateur, Williams also operates Via Carota, I Sodi, The Commerce Inn and Bar Pisellino in New York alongside her wife, Rita Sodi.

Williams launched Buvette in Notting Hill during the pandemic, but it closed in 2024.
