Lockdown Bakehouse will open a new site in Putney on 3 June, marking the latest chapter in its growth from a single kitchen operation into a fledgling independent bakery chain.
The business was born during the first national lockdown, when founders Chris and Dawn began baking from their MYPIE kitchen to supply local residents and NHS workers with essentials. What started as a neighbourhood response quickly evolved into a full-scale bakery operation, building a loyal following across South West London.
It now operates cafés in Wandsworth, Barnes, Clapham, Earlsfield and Raynes Park, alongside a production bakehouse in Wimbledon that supplies more than 180 wholesale customers across the capital with fresh bread, pastries and cakes each day.
The Putney site continues the brand’s expansion through South West London, serving its Australian-inspired café menu with fresh daily bakes and a brunch offer.
“South West London has always been home for us, Dawn and I have lived here for 17+ years and every site we’ve opened has been built around the local community that supports it,” says Chris Brumby, co-founder of Lockdown Bakehouse.
“So many of our regular customers have followed our journey from those early lockdown days and Putney felt like a natural next step.
“It’s a neighbourhood with a real sense of community, where people genuinely care about independent businesses, quality food and places that bring people together - which is exactly what Lockdown Bakehouse is all about.”
