The launch marks the wine bar group’s return to Canary Wharf following the closure of its previous underperforming site in the district and another step in the brand’s ongoing expansion under the ownership of Majestic Wine Group, which acquired the business out of administration in 2024.
The new venue is set to feature more than 100 wines alongside a food offer. Produced 1,300 metres away at Vagabond’s urban winery in Canada Water, wines will be available by the glass through self-pour wine machines.
Vagabond’s Canary Wharf return will be its fifth new opening in 12 months as it accelerates its expansion plans. Since becoming part of Majestic Wine Group and with backing from Fortress Investment Group, Vagabond has opened new bars in St Paul’s and Liverpool Street as well as its urban winery in Canada Water.
Later this year, it will open the doors to its largest bar to date in Soho and has ambitions to expand into major towns and cities outside of London in the coming years.
As well as expanding its physical presence, Vagabond has launched a new smartphone app, digital wine flights, and a transactional website.
The new opening also comes as Canary Wharf continues to evolve beyond its traditional role as a business district. The area now attracts more than 76 million visitors annually, with weekend footfall having more than doubled since 2019.
“We’ve always felt a connection to Canary Wharf, and we’re so excited to be returning to such a fast-evolving part of London,” says Vagabond Wines managing director, Christobell Giles.
“It’s an area that has changed so much over the last few years and people aren’t just coming here for the working week anymore - there’s such a diverse mix of people 24/7, from teams coming together and hosting clients to people spending their weekends exploring.
“Our new space allows us to come back in a way that properly reflects what Vagabond and Canary Wharf have become.”
Stuart Fyfe, managing director of retail, leisure and hospitality, adds: “We’re delighted to welcome Vagabond to Canary Wharf, another innovative concept wanting to be part of our thriving district, attracted by our growing footfall and diverse and expanding customer base.
“Canary Wharf is fast becoming one of the most exciting dining and leisure destinations in London, with more than 80 cafes, bars and restaurants catering to visitors, workers and residents alike.”
