Nepalese dumplings restaurant Eat Momo has taken up residency at The Coach and Horses in Leyton for a summer-long pop-up.

The restaurant, which is the creation of sisters Trishna and Dipa Chamling, who were brought up in Nepal, is bringing its handmade Nepali dumplings, noodle soups and family recipes to the East London pub.

At the heart of the menu are momo - handmade Nepali dumplings served steamed, fried, chilli-fried or pan-fried kothey-style, with fillings including pork, chicken, paneer and vegetables. Alongside these are dishes inspired by the sisters’ childhood, including chowmein stir-fried noodles, chicken chilli, curries served with rice, and traditional khana sets featuring rice, dal, achar, seasonal greens and roti.

Every Monday, it will serve momo for just £1 and on Thursdays its signature dumplings can be paired with a selection of traditional Nepali soups, including Himalayan thukpa, a noodle soup made with slow-simmered broth, tomato jhol with Nepali spices; and a slow-cooked bone broth jhol.

“The Coach is one of our favourite local pubs, having been massive fans of the team there for a long while,” say the founder.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring our Nepalese food into a traditional pub setting and introduce even more people to the flavours and traditions that we grew up with.”

Originally built during the Victorian era, The Coach has been a landmark on Leyton High Road since 1863.

Eat Momo opened its first site in Borough Yards in 2024 as a tribute to the food and traditions they grew up with in Nepal.
