The awards recognise independent restaurants for their food and service, with winners selected by customer votes across nine regions, including the South West & Wales, Northern Ireland, the South East, the West Midlands, the East Midlands, the North East, Scotland, London and the North West.
Other winners were Gourmet Burger and Fries in Cambridge; Slice of New York in Birmingham; Boo in Leicester; Mother Hubbards in Leeds; La Vita East End in Glasgow; Mr Chinese in Lambeth; and Marvel Kitchen in Manchester.
The awards come as Just Eat marks two decades of operating in the UK, with the company highlighting continued demand for independent takeaway businesses.
“For twenty years, one of the things our customers have loved most about Just Eat is discovering brilliant local takeaways, whether that’s the best kebab in town, their go-to fish and chips, or a new favourite around the corner,” says Leigh Phillipson, commercial director at Just Eat.
“The Just Eat Awards are all about celebrating those local heroes and shining a spotlight on the amazing food and service they offer.”
According to research by Censuswide, 46% of people prioritise ordering from independent local takeaways, while 20% order from a local independent at least once a week.
Research by Development Economics found that independent takeaways contribute £28 billion in annual gross value (GVA) to the UK economy and support more than 897,000 jobs nationwide.
The research also examined the role of independent food businesses on UK high streets, with 61% of respondents saying independent takeaways play an important role in the character of their local high street, and 64% saying that high streets would be worse off without independent food businesses.
