The Hakkasan Group restaurant has received significant investment from parent company Mohari Hospitality, with the redevelopment covering its food offer, interiors and wider guest experience under the creative consultancy of filmmaker Wong Kar Wai. The company says the refurbishment will include ‘a new visual identity while introducing innovative elements that will elevate the restaurant for the next generation’.
Yauatcha opened in Soho in 2004 and was awarded a Michelin star within its first year. The restaurant, known for its striking appearance, was designed by French architect and designer Christian Liaigre and has focused on contemporary Cantonese cuisine, dim sum and tea.
Chef Fai Choi, who joined Hakkasan Group as UK research and development chef in August 2026, having previously worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in London and Hong Kong, will lead the culinary development. The new menu will take a more seasonal and ingredient-led approach to contemporary Cantonese cuisine.
“Yauatcha Soho has been a cornerstone of our group for over two decades,” says Yavuz Pehlivanlar, chief executive officer at Hakkasan Group.
“We are delighted to be working with Wong Kar Wai as creative consultant on this reinvention and look forward to unveiling a reimagined Yauatcha that continues to set the standard for London dining.”
Kar Wai adds: “A great film starts with a great story, and so does a great restaurant.
“It is my great pleasure to take part in this new chapter for Yauatcha Soho’s distinguished story.”
Yauatcha Soho’s redevelopment forms part of a long-term commitment by Mohari Hospitality to ‘strengthening and evolving’ the Hakkasan Group and its brands.
Yauatcha City in Broadgate Circle and Hakkasan Mayfair will remain open as usual.
