The restaurant, located on Wellington Street, has announced it will close at the end of September, but says it will be ‘back soon’.
“After more than three decades on Wellington Street, the time is approaching for us to close the doors to our Covent Garden home,” it says.
“Christopher’s has been part of countless celebrations, traditions and unforgettable moments over the years, and we’re incredibly grateful to every guest, team member, supplier and friend who has been part of the journey.”
Housed in a Grade II listed building that opened in 1870 as London’s first licensed casino and was later a papier mâché factory, Christopher’s was founded by Christopher Gilmour in 1991. Spilt over three floors, with a Martini Bar on the ground floor, an American restaurant on the first floor and an exclusive Club Room on the lower ground floor. The venue was designed to ‘recall the heady-glamour of the Modern American era’.
Its owners say that while Christopher’s is leaving the building, they are ‘actively exploring a new home’ for the restaurant and look forward to sharing more about the next chapter in due course.
