The petition against Hotbox Restaurant Group Ltd is due to be heard at the High Court on 7 October, according to a recent Gazette notice.
Founded in 2012 by Basit Nasim and Preeya Khagram-Nasim as a street-food business, HotBox traded at several of London’s leading outdoor pitches and indoor markets before launching a large bricks-and-mortar restaurant near Spitalfields in 2014.
The business was acquired by entrepreneur Adhum Carter Wolde-Lule in 2022. Two years later, he announced a £1.5m fundraise that valued HotBox at £7m, alongside plans to open restaurants in Covent Garden and Soho.
At the time, the business operated concessions at several London food halls, including Market Halls and Boxpark.
HotBox’s site at Pop Brixton remains listed on Deliveroo but was not taking orders when checked.
Its barbecue offer centred on meats cooked low and slow over hickory and oak, including beef brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork and smoked chicken.
These were served as platters or sandwiches alongside dishes such as barbecue dirty rice, gochujang corn, kimchi coleslaw and loaded fries.
