The restaurant, located on Abbeville Road in Clapham, opened in 2012 and was located a short walk from Byatt’s flagship Trinity, which he opened in 2006. Bistro Union had a more casual offer to Trinity, serving a menu of British dishes.
In a note on its website, the restaurant says: “After 15 brilliant years on Abbeville Road, it’s time for us to close this chapter. It has been an absolute pleasure serving this community, thank you to all the guests that have come through the doors and supported us along the way.”
In March this year, Bistro Union relaunched with its original 2012 menu and prices, which Byatt said was a direct response to the rising cost of dining out in London.
The ‘new old’ menu brought back classic British dishes including chicken Kyiv; and toad in the hole, alongside bar snacks and daily specials including the Saturday Bistro Fry Up.
As well as Trinity, Byatt operates Upstairs at Trinity, Constance at Fulham Pier, and is chef director of food and beverage at Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair. His most recent project, Italian restaurant Rosina, opened in Wandsworth in July.
Bistro Union was host to a number of 2026 Chef Series Evenings, the remainder of which will now be hosted at Upstairs at Trinity.
