Wild Group to replace Krokodilos in Kensington with new grill concept

Wild Group will open a new grill restaurant on the former Krokodilos site in Kensington this month.

Lucky Grill will be Wild Group’s 12th restaurant and will open at Lancer Square on Kensington Church Street on 21 October.

The restaurant will be built on the same principles as Wild Group’s Chelsea Grill, which opened last year on replacing the group’s Fantômas restaurant that it opened in partnership with chef Chris Denney.

Occupying a larger site than Chelsea Grill, Lucky Grill is described as having ‘a more relaxed, funkier vibe’ with a bigger bar space and a bigger beef programme. It will serve a range of steaks that will be dry-aged on site for up to 30 days, then trimmed, cut daily and cooked over fire on a Rhys Allen grill.

“Chelsea Grill opened in November last year, and just five months later was named number 55 in the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants. So, when we looked at High Street Kensington and saw nowhere doing steak the way we do it, we didn’t think twice,” says George Bukhov-Weinstein, Wild Group co-founder.

Beyond steak, menu highlights will include a selection of toasts and salads to start, and whole sea bream and calf’s liver for mains. For dessert will be homemade sour cherry pie (pictured below); and Napoleon cake.

The restaurant will have an open kitchen and next to it will be a six-seat chef’s table with a view of the meat ageing fridge.

The kitchen will be led by Anton Vasilyev, previously head chef at Chelsea Grill and now executive chef across both sites, with Luca Gerano, who has been part of the Wild Group family since the opening of Wild Tavern in 2019, as head chef.

“It’s all about the beef. We work with farmers in the UK and in Italy, and we’re always seeking out the most dedicated suppliers, so the beef that comes through our door is exceptional and well-reared,” says Vasilyev.

“Then we keep it simple – fire, smoke and the best ingredients we can find. That’s the whole philosophy at Lucky Grill, same as it’s always been at Chelsea Grill. And the sour cherry pie’s coming with us too. That one’s non-negotiable.”

Wild Group opened Greek restaurant Krokodilos in December 2024 led by chef Angelos Togias, but closed the restaurant in March this year. Lucky Grill is backed by investor and long time partner Elmira Amdiy, who has also backed Chelsea Grill and several other Wild Group restaurants.

Speaking to Restaurant in July this year, Amidy said the group was not afraid to replace its restaurants with new concepts if it felt they had a better fit with their location.

“Sometimes the biggest opportunities aren’t new sites at all, they’re existing businesses with untapped potential,” she said of the Krokodilos site.

“Sometimes growth comes from backing a winning idea, and sometimes it comes from having the confidence to change direction when something isn’t quite working.”

Lucky Grill will be Wild Group’s third opening of 2026 after The Albatross and Wild Izakaya.
