Oded Oren, founder of the Michelin Bib-Gourmand neighbourhood restaurant Oren, will open a new delicatessen in Hampstead.

The chef, who is also behind Oren Delicatessen Broadway Market, will open the site on Hampstead’s Heath Street next month.

The new venue - described as having the ‘essence of a New York deli at its core’ - will celebrate North African and Mediterranean flavours, serving freshly baked babka, challah buns with New York-style fillings, homemade mezze, pickles and pantry staples.

Baked goods will include the likes of rugalach - traditional Jewish small croissant like pastries, made with dough rather than pastry and rolled with sweet fillings; challah bread and butter pudding; chocolate and hazelnut babka; and savoury pastries such as feta and graviera borekitas; and latkes with apple sauce and sour cream.

At weekends it will offer The Slow Range - a collection of dishes designed for sharing and feasting, such as beef short rib with Persian lime; and chicken kofte with chard and lemon.

All breads, bakes and cakes will be made by the team at the Broadway Market deli before being transported to Hampstead.

The Hampstead deli will also act as a bottle shop, serving low-intervention wines for takeaway and by the glass, for those who wish to sit in the courtyard it looks upon.

Oren Delicatessen Hampstead will open 1 November.
