Compiled using ratings and reviews from three million Toptable users who booked and dined at restaurants during 2009, the awards are split into ten categories, including Under £25, Over £45, Romance, and Hidden Gems, to give every UK restaurant the chance of winning.
The two-Michelin starred Gidleigh Park Restaurant, which was a runner-up for Hardens Remy Martin XO Excellence Award earlier this week, was voted by diners as having ‘amazing’ food, ‘faultless’ service and a ‘stunning’ location, which earned the restaurant top spots in the Over £45 and Romance categories as well.
Michael Caines, executive chef of Gidleigh Park, Bath Priory and ABode Hotels, who gave an exclusive live interview to BigHospitality about looking maintaining standards for such a large portfolio in October, said: “I am delighted that we have been nominated so often in these awards. It is always satisfying to receive recognition and praise, but it is particularly gratifying that the impartial views and ratings of toptable users, our diners, have positioned us so highly.”
Other award winners
Top in the Celebrity Chef category was Restaurant Martin Wishart in Edinburgh, which toptable users voted better than Gordon Ramsay at Claridges (7th) and Michel Roux Jr’s Le Gavroche in London (2nd).
The nation’s favourite cuisine was also found to be Italian, with Indian food a close second. English cuisine was voted the least popular, appearing in tenth place behind European and Chinese cuisine.
