Located on Newgate Street, Jörd offers an ‘elevated dining’ experience using locally sourced and foraged ingredients, and is the chef’s second restaurant venture.
Jörd serves a tasting menu priced at £69 per person, with dishes on the sample menu that include tuna tartlet; pork jowl croquette; Thai green sea bass; butternut squash raviolo with sage, buerre noisette and ‘nduja; and chocolate mousse with malt, miso, caramel and hazelnut.
The project received help from the Property Reuse Fund, which granted £150,000 to help transform the long-empty town centre property.
Following his appearance as a contestant on the BBC cooking competition MasterChef in 2021, Bartley moved into the world of professional cookery, starting out as a private chef. Late last year he opened his first restaurant The Cornerstone, in Crook in County Durham, serving street food-inspired dishes such as tacos, loaded fries, and burgers.
“I started out as a private chef, cooking for clients across the UK, but the goal was always to open a restaurant of my own,” says Bartley.
“Alongside our sister restaurant, The Cornerstone in Crook, that dream has now become a reality - twice over.
“I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created at Jörd, and I look forward to welcoming you soon.”
