The UK eating out market is forecast to grow by 2.6% in 2025, reaching a total value of £101bn, new data shows.

Food to go-led channels are driving growth in the market, according to the latest Lumina Intelligence UK Eating Out Market Report 2025, with coffee shops and cafés, sandwich and bakery, convenience and supermarket to go and fast food leading site and turnover growth in the eating out market.

Physical expansion and investment in customer service technology and food and drink propositions are driving growth among these channels, according to the report.

The market is expected to see overall net site growth of 0.4% this year, to reach a total of 324,193 sites across the UK. Lumina predicts strong site growth for coffee shop and dessert parlours, up 2.4%, and fast food outlets, up 1.4%.

Growth, it says, is being driven through franchise models, which has become a key strategy for brands across coffee shops and fast food amid mounting cost pressures.

The report also points to consumers increasingly turning towards promotions as a means of receiving value for money.

It found that loyalty card schemes are the most popular promotion type, ahead of a percentage off the price, meals deals, and the use of a voucher via a mobile app. It says promotions were used on 35.3% of dining occasions, up 1.4 percentage points year on year.
