Located opposite the original Halisco restaurant at 50 Preston Street, the site originally opened as Asian small-plates restaurant Anakuma in 2023 before being rebranded as Halisco Too early this year.
The restaurant built on the success of brothers Ali and Mo Razavi’s Halisco with a tighter menu focused on burritos, small plates and margaritas.
“It comes with a heavy heart that after this weekend we’ve decided enough is enough and it’s time to close the doors once and for all,” the pair said in a statement posted on Instagram. “After originally getting the keys back in August 2023 and opening the much-loved Anakuma in memory of our incredible mum, a lot has changed. I don’t even think we need to rant and tell you what’s changed because everyone in hospitality knows everything that has changed.”
Anakuma served Asian street food with a focus on bao buns and took its name from the Japanese word for badger as a tribute to the brothers’ late mother, whose nickname was Badger.
The statement continued: “Sorry we didn’t quite make it with this one, Mum, but I know you would be telling us there’s plenty more opportunities out there and we’ll grab them one day when we’re a bit more ready for it.
“Thanks to everyone who’s shown us love along the way. This one’s a tough pill to swallow for sure... Que sera sera.”
Alongside the original Halisco restaurant, the brothers will continue to operate Halisco Margarita Bar, also on Preston Street, as well as Spanish restaurant Amari on Baker Street, just off Brighton’s London Road.
Halisco Too will close early next week.
