Five Feet Pizzeria is the latest venture from Jay Patel, founder of London restaurants Legare and Luna, Roland Horne from coffee shop group WatchHouse, and chef and baker Jack Ellingham, whose previous experience includes Dusty Knuckle and Spring. The 55-cover neighbourhood restaurant will focus on comfort food and pan pizzas made using a centimetre-thick dough produced from heritage grains milled using a bespoke mill on site.
The mill, imported from Montpellier in France, and described as the first of its kind in the UK, will be housed in a glass-fronted dough room at the centre of the restaurant. It enables Ellingham to produce bespoke flour blends using heritage grains sourced from independent UK farmers.
The dough will be topped with British ingredients from independent producers and baked in seasoned black iron pans. Options will include the hot sausage pie with vodka sauce, fennel sausage, pecorino, ricotta, pickled chillies and Calabrian chilli honey; a pepperoni pie with tomato sauce, for di latte, pecorino, pepperoni and parmesan; and a white potato pie featuring white sauce, potatoes, green onions, caramelised onions and a blend of cheeses. Vegan pizzas will also be available.
Alongside pizza, the menu will include dishes such as polenta fritta with vodka sauce and scamorza; chicken wings served with either buffalo and blue cheese or garlic butter and parmesan; and focaccia di Recco filled with stracchino cheese. Desserts will include seasonal gelato, double chocolate cake made with Pump Street chocolate and bomboloni served with milk gelato made from Jersey dairy.
The drinks offering will feature low-intervention wines available by the glass, carafe and bottle, alongside vermouths, digestivi and organic Italian soft drinks.
Interiors, designed by Studio Deidra Hodgson, whose previous projects include Aesop, WatchHouse and Allpress, feature lemon accents, cherry-toned timber, exposed brick, stucco-finished walls and vintage-inspired wooden furnishings.
Located in the former Dobson’s Bakery on Bermondsey Street, Five Feet Pizzeria takes its name from the area’s industrial history, referencing Five Foot Lane, now known as Tanner Street.
The restaurant will open for evening service from Tuesday to Saturday.
