London-centric wine bar group Vagabond has acquired the former Browns Brasserie site in Brighton’s The Lanes area for its second regional location.

The 2,980 sq ft Duke Street site will launch later this year following an extensive refurbishment.

It will join 13 sites in London and an additional location in Birmingham.

Vagabond, which was acquired by wine retailer Majestic in 2024, says it plans to expand its portfolio to 25 sites over the next five years.

The Brighton opening will mark Vagabond’s third new venue of 2026, following launches in Soho in June and Canary Wharf last week.

Vagabond says it has also expanded its multichannel offer over the past 12 months with the launch of a smartphone app, ‘digital’ wine flights and an e-commerce website.

The brand’s Brighton location will feature its signature self-pour wine machines, offering guests a selection of more than 100 wines by the glass.

The range will include English wines produced at Vagabond’s Urban Winery in Canada Water, which launched earlier this year.

Vagabond’s Brighton venue will feature a staircase lined with riddling racks and a stainless steel bar – a nod to the tanks Vagabond uses to make its English wines.

“Brighton has always been a city that marches to its own beat – it’s fun, vibrant and fiercely independent, all of which make it a dream location for Vagabond. It’s been a while since we opened a new bar outside of London, and we couldn’t have picked a more perfect place to do it,” says interim Vagabond director Graham Hall.

“Brighton has such a diverse and colourful mix of bars, restaurants and retailers, all offering something unique and innovative. We’re really excited to bring our wine experience to the party and introduce the city to a brand new way of enjoying wine, one pour at a time.”
