According to a report in City AM, both The Stafford Collection and its owner BHL Global are now subject to winding-up petitions, a formal legal process through which a creditor can seek to have a company liquidated over unpaid debts.
The Stafford is home to Michael Caines at The Stafford, which launched last year and won a Michelin star earlier this year.
The Stafford Collection is also involved with Caines’ flagship Lympstone Manor, with the Devon luxury hotel and restaurant listed as an “associate member” of the hospitality group.
On Charlotte Street, Norma was launched by The Stafford Collection in 2019 and serves an upscale menu of Sicily-inspired dishes.
The action from HMRC follows The Stafford managing director John McLean stepping down after a year in the role.
The Stafford told Restaurant: “The Stafford is aware of the petition referenced in recent media coverage. The matter is currently being addressed through the appropriate channels. In the meantime, it remains business as usual at The Stafford, with the hotel continuing to deliver the high standards of service for which it is known.”
