Bristol and Birmingham-based steakhouse group Cow & Sow will open a farm shop and restaurant later this year.

The Field will be located on the former site of the Dew Drop Inn in Flax Bourton, just outside Bristol, which has been closed for the past three years.

Surrounded by an acre of land, the property is located opposite the group’s recently launched Kitchen Farm, a seven-acre smallholding that grows organic vegetables and herbs for Cow & Sow’s three restaurants.

The Field farm shop will sell home-grown produce delivered daily from the farm, as well as fresh bread, dairy products, pantry staples and meat from Cow & Sow’s suppliers.

The shop will also feature a florist, plus a gift and homewares section.

Open from morning until 6pm, The Field will also be home to a 70-cover restaurant and café serving breakfast, brunch and lunch, with dishes including fresh salads, quiches, soups and ploughman’s platters.

Cow & Sow has also revealed plans for a second phase of the development, which will create meeting and event spaces available to hire, plus a test kitchen and cookery school on the first floor of the building.

Mark Warburton, founder of Cow & Sow, said: “It’s been a really exciting start to the year for us. We’ve already introduced our Kitchen Farm and now Amy and I are bringing The Field Farmshop & Kitchen into the wider family.

“We’re passionate about using and growing the very best produce in our restaurants and sourcing it from as locally as possible, and we want to share that passion with the people of Bristol and beyond.

“I really want this space to become a place to gather, enjoy and celebrate for locals and visitors. We’re already working with our friends at Clifton Coffee Roasters, Walter Rose & Son, Roam Catering and Somerset Grill Co to make sure we’re able to offer something really special. We can’t wait to welcome people through the doors this autumn.”

The first Cow & Sow opened on Queen Square in Bristol in 2022. This was followed by a second Bristol site in Clifton.

In 2024, it launched its third restaurant in Birmingham’s Paradise development.
