Honest Burgers has closed the only site of its smash burger concept Smash + Grab a year and a half after it opened.

The brand marked Honest Burgers’ move into the QSR sector and opened in late 2024 on the site of the group’s Liverpool Street restaurant. It followed a £3m fundraise to enable the burger group to ‘challenge the big guys’ in the QSR space.

At the time Honest Burgers founders Tom Barton and Philip Eeles said that the new concept would enable them to open in smaller locations that they would struggle to do with the classic Honest Burgers casual dining format.

The Honest Smash + Grab menu centred on a range of smash burgers, loaded chips, chicken tenders and milkshakes. A breakfast menu of options such as a range of muffins with options including eggs, bacon and sausage patties was later introduced.

Last year, Barton said that Honest Burgers was hoping to open two to three flagship Smash + Grab sites in the capital in the coming 12 months, but none failed to materialise.

“We want to solidify the brand and show customers what we can do in the QSR space,” he said.
