Called TheFork Pay, diners can pay their restaurant bill directly through the TheFork app, eliminating the need for payment terminals. The launch follows successful roll-outs in markets including Spain, France and Italy.
Approximately 30 minutes after their reservation time, diners automatically receive a payment notification via the TheFork app. They can then enter the amount, select a saved payment card and complete the transaction in seconds. Tips can also be added during the payment process.
Restaurants receive instant payment confirmations via email and TheFork Manager with payments processed through Stripe typically deposited into the restaurant’s account within 24 to 48 hours.
In what TheFork says is a unique market offering, the payment company absorbs all transaction fees on behalf of participating restaurants, which it says can save restaurants more than £850 per month on average in payment processing costs compared with traditional card payment solutions.
“The launch of TheFork Pay marks an important step in simplifying the dining experience for both restaurants and diners,” says Rachel Moore, head of B2B - UK at TheFork. “Guests can enjoy a faster, more convenient way to pay, while restaurants benefi t from zero transaction fees, improved effi ciency and new opportunities to strengthen customer relationships,”
Restaurants that already accept TheFork Pay as a payment method include Kanishka, Antika Restaurant, Primos Mexican Cantina, and Cafe Pacifico.
