Dating back to 1845, The Walmer Castle is located on Ledbury Road and will continue to trade with its existing team, menu and drinks offering.
The pub’s menu includes starters such as Santa Croce burrata; grilled Atlantic king prawns; and heritage beetroot salad, followed by mains featuring roasted Shetland baby monkfish; handmade trofie pasta; and beer batter North Sea haddock and chips. Desserts such as basque cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding, and chocolate brownie are also on offer with drinks including lagers, ciders and cocktails alongside a range of wines available by the glass or bottle.
The acquisition takes Public House Group’s pub estate to eight sites and follows the opening of The Horses in Clerkenwell last month. Public House Group’s portfolio also includes The Pelican in Notting Hill, The Bull in Charlbury and The Hart on Chiltern Street.
BNF Capital is an existing investor in Public House Group, having backed its expansion, while a BNF Hospitality entity also holds a significant minority stake in the business.
The Walmer Castle was previously operated by Wren Pubs, which acquired the freehold of the site alongside the Carpenter’s Arms in Hammersmith earlier this year. Wren subsequently sold the Carpenter’s Arms to musician James Blunt.
