Ninety One, the pub which launched in March this year within the Truman Brewery estate, says it is excited to be working with Jurkish, which was founded by chef and entrepreneur Nazli Ramadan.
The residency is based in the former Brewmaster’s House at the Truman Brewery site.
Drawing on Ramadan’s Jamaican and Turkish-Cypriot heritage, the concept started in Peckham and Brixton and is known for combining Caribbean spice with Turkish comfort food and contemporary cooking techniques.
Signature dishes include plantain hummus, curry goat manti and pistachio künefe brownies.
The menu also includes a meze selection featuring honey-glazed halloumi, crispy chicken bites and böregi, as well as handcrafted pides topped with smoky oxtail ragù or spicy sucuk; jerk chicken; pulled oxtail; mac and cheese; and coconut rice.
Jurkish also offers a Sunday roast menu, with a choice of Jurk chicken, mint Jurk lamb shank or vegan hot honey pumpkin, accompanied by roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings with Jurky gravy. Desserts include plantain lokma and pistachio crunch brownie.
“Ninety One feels like a full-circle moment in the most unexpected way,” says Ramadan.
“My dad traded in Spitalfields for years, so the East End has always had a pull on me - my friends say I’m part geezer, part baddie, part chef, so maybe it was only a matter of time.
“Bringing Jurkish to Brick Lane feels like the most natural move we’ve ever made, and I couldn’t be more excited to make East London our new home.
“This community deserves bold, honest food, and that’s exactly what we’re here to deliver.”
Ninety One features a main event space with a Funktion-One sound system and an outdoor courtyard. By day it operates as a social and co-working space, while in the evenings it hosts live music, DJ sets and cultural events.
