The certification recognises businesses that demonstrate a commitment to their local community, environment, customers and staff.
With a stated aim to “proudly serve the best of Scotland”, Bonnie & Wild has, since its launch, championed Scottish produce and producers.
It says all of its independent kitchens and chefs use Scottish ingredients, while its bar and gantry serve exclusively Scottish products, as does its Rarity bottle shop.
All 14 kitchens and specialist retailers within the Edinburgh marketplace are operated by owner-led Scottish businesses, employing more than 100 people across the site.
The B Corp mark is awarded by B Lab, an independent non-profit organisation, to businesses that meet high standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
To achieve certification, companies must score 80 or above in the B Impact Assessment, which evaluates performance across five areas: workers, community, environment, customers and governance. Bonnie & Wild scored 89.9, compared with a global average of 50.9.
Ryan Barrie, managing director of Bonnie & Wild, said: “This is a significant milestone for Bonnie & Wild, and I’m enormously proud of our entire team for their efforts in making us the first food hall in the world to become a certified B Corp.
“This latest accolade reflects the supportive community we’ve established, including our staff, concessions, suppliers and customers, who have all helped make Bonnie & Wild one of Scotland’s most visited food and drink destinations.
“Importantly, B Corp certification means our guests can be assured that the money they spend at Bonnie & Wild supports a purpose-led business committed to championing Scottish entrepreneurs and start-ups, supporting our teams and local community, and working to safeguard the wider environment.”
The certification was achieved as part of the Edinburgh B Corp 500 initiative, led by Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and Everyone’s Edinburgh, which aims to support 500 businesses in the capital to achieve B Corp status by 2030.
Mayan Grace, director of projects at Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, added: “We are delighted to congratulate Bonnie & Wild on achieving B Corp certification. Their dedication throughout the B Corp 500 cohort has been impressive, and this milestone reflects their commitment to responsible, purpose-driven business.”
Bonnie & Wild opened in 2021 and spans 16,700 sq ft, with seating for almost 400 guests.
Located on level four of the St James Quarter in Edinburgh city centre, it is home to more than a dozen independent food stalls and retailers, including Julie Lin’s Tacos Lah, Eusebi Bakery, Flùr New York pizza & pasta bar, Creel Caught by Gary Maclean, Salt & Chilli by Jimmy Lee, Chooks, El Perro Negro, Kochchi, Joelato, Leith Woks and Soup & Caboodle.
The venue also houses three bars and an events space.
