Live-fire restaurant Kāio appears to have closed little more than a month after opening at The Whiteley in Bayswater.

The restaurant is no longer accepting reservations, while a high-profile September residency featuring former Hide chef Ollie Dabbous, announced late last month, will not go ahead.

Restaurant understands that the business has entered administration, although no appointment has yet been recorded.

Kāio officially launched on 5 August, replacing Amsterdam-born restaurant concept Nela, which had itself closed after trading for approximately 10 months.

Kāio continued Nela’s focus on live-fire cooking, with much of the original kitchen understood to have been retained.

The kitchen was led by head chef Sachin Mistry, whose CV includes The Grill by Tom Booton at The Dorchester, BiBi, Michelin-starred The Cross at Kenilworth and Akoko.

The menu included torched yellowtail with sour cherry dressing; glazed smoky aubergine with dates, honey and walnuts; glazed Iberico pork with ginger, garlic, fennel and apple slaw; and grilled lamb neck fillet with sour cream, tomato, mint and molasses.

Kaio Restaurant Limited, its operator Berkeley Simmons Leisure and The Whiteley have been contacted for comment.
