The high profile Indian restaurant group appears set to take over the former Las Iguanas restaurant on London’s South Bank.
Dishoom had no presence south of the river until it opened at Battersea Power Station in 2023.
Its three most recent London projects – Battersea, the forthcoming Dishoom Borough and the proposed South Bank restaurant – are all in south London.
According to a planning application lodged with Lambeth Council, Dishoom is seeking permission to install a glazed veranda with a retractable roof enclosing the existing terrace at Unit 14 Royal Festival Hall.
The application, which is awaiting a decision, is supported by rendered elevations, proposed floor plans, a design and access statement and a combined cover letter, heritage statement and flood-risk assessment.
Las Iguanas’ prominent South Bank restaurant is understood to have quietly closed earlier this year.
Dishoom currently operates seven of its eponymous cafés in London, in Battersea, Canary Wharf, Carnaby, Covent Garden, Kensington, King’s Cross and Shoreditch. It also runs the Permit Room Portobello bar-restaurant in Notting Hill.
Earlier this year, Dishoom confirmed that it would open near Borough Market at 24 Southwark Street, within the Grade II-listed Hop Exchange. Current recruitment adverts indicate that Dishoom Borough is scheduled to open in October.
Founded by cousins Shamil and Kavi Thakrar in Covent Garden in 2010, Dishoom currently operates 17 sites across the UK: 12 restaurants under its core Dishoom brand and five Permit Room bar-restaurants.
