Matsudai Ramen to open 'Wales' first ramen shop' in Cardiff this August
The 70-cover Matsudai Ramen at the Bank will open in a former Natwest bank site in Grangetown, Cardiff, on 6 August following a five-month refurbishment of the site. It will serve a range of ramens that will change with the seasons alongside side dishes such as its signature karaage chicken and mushrooms.
Matsudai Ramen was launched by founder James Chant in late 2019 doing pop-up events and has since taken over kitchens in London, Manchester and Bristol, including taking over the kitchen of the British Film Institute in Soho for a month.
“I’m so excited to have this opening date in the diary. It’s mind-boggling to me that we’re about to open a restaurant - Wales’ first ramen shop - and in my hometown of Cardiff no less,” says Chant.
“The feedback from the local community in Grangetown has been overwhelmingly warm - we feel truly welcomed and can’t wait to fill The Bank with ramen lovers. I’m very proud of what we’ve done to the space over the last few months and can’t wait to get it open now.”
