Event caterer Amadeus has won a £5m contract to manage the new Riverside Clubhouse in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The deal includes managing the restaurant, bar and event facilities at the £3.2 million purpose-built venue, which is located on the banks of the River Avon.

Europe’s largest wooden construction, the Riverside Clubhouse is a low carbon building constructed predominately from Russian Spruce, Cedar wood and Zinc, which are sustainable and hard-wearing.

The venue sits on stilts to mitigate any flooding risk and has private balconies and break-out space for conferences.

Owner Avon Estates hopes the new venue will attract footfall from local residents and tourists staying Avon's nearby holiday parks, as well as local businesses looking for a conference location with a difference.

“This venue has been on the drawing board for over 10 years and now it’s time to launch it to our customers,” said Avon Estates managing director Nic Allen.

"In my eyes the relationship with Amadeus is not just a normal contract but an exciting partnership, getting Amadeus involved early on in the project has been the key to getting this iconic building ready and prepared for the launch in March.”

Green credentials

Amadeus said the venue’s low carbon credentials fit well with its own environmental priorities, adding that British suppliers and sustainability would play a big part in the menu offering at the new venue.

The caterer said that it would call on all of its experience to cater to the different needs of the venue’s guests and “offer the very best in food, service and management”.

Amadeus managing director Kevin Watson said, “Riverside is a unique venue in a magnificent location. We are really looking forward to welcoming local residents and businesses, and also to maximising Riverside’s commercial success.”

The new deal is the latest in a series of business wins for Amadeus, which is part of the NEC Group.

Over the past ten months, the company has secured £16M of business, with deals including Cadbury World, Camden Council, the Library of Birmingham and Birmingham Town Hall – worth a total of £16M.
