Sri Lankan bar and restaurant group The Coconut Tree has announced a phased reopening schedule for all of six sites across England and Wales.

The group’s Cardiff restaurant - its only one in Wales - will be the first to reopen on Wednesday 22nd July. However, in line with guidelines set out by the Welsh Government it will only operate outside until allowed to open up indoors on 3 August.

As well as reopening its restaurant in the Welsh capital Cardiff it the group is also launching a specially created, communal dining space within the grounds of Cardiff Castle. Customers will be able to order The Coconut Tree’s dishes using mobile ordering system Yoello to be delivered to a designated dining area created within the castle grounds.

In England, its Bournemouth restaurant will be the first reopen on Friday 24 July, with its sites on Bristol’s Gloucester Road and in the Bristol Triangle reopening on Wednesday 29 July, the latter for takeaways only.
Its Oxford restaurant will reopen on Friday 31 July; with Cheltenham the last to come back in stream Monday 3 August.
“We’re delighted to be able to share our roadmap to reopening our sites, and can’t wait to welcome everyone back to our restaurants with some signature Sri Lankan hospitality,” says brand director Anna Garrod.

“Cardiff will be our first reopening, and we’re really excited to be part of the new public dining area being created at Cardiff castle by the local council.”
“We have been working on some new recipes during lockdown, and can’t think of a better way to reveal them than with a Sri Lankan feast in the grounds of Cardiff castle.”
The Coconut Tree has also confirmed that it will be taking part in the UK Government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme throughout August.
