Nottingham-based fish and chip restaurant and takeaway The Cod’s Scallops will open its fifth site later this month as part of its plans to grow its estate within a 90-minut drive of its original location.

The new 40-cover restaurant will be located in the West Midlands town of Harborne on the High Street and will be the independent family-run business’ first outside of the East Midlands area. It will join its existing restaurants in Sherwood, Wollaton and Long Eaton in Nottinghamshire and Market Harborough in Leicestershire.

The Cod’s Scallops was launched in Nottingham by owner and chef John Molnar in 2011. It was named Fish and Chip shop of the Year at The National Fish and Chips Awards 2020.

“Harborne is exactly the right place for The Cod’s Scallops and my wife Helen and I couldn’t be more excited to be bringing our unique offer to the High Street and getting to know the local community,” says Molnar.

“We have been looking for the right site in Birmingham for some time. We love the city and its surrounding areas and the site in Harborne ticked all the boxes.

“From its buzzing High Street with its strong retail and leisure offer and the great community feel, we are really looking forward to being a part of it.”

The restaurant will serve more than 20 species of fish and shellfish that will change daily depending on what comes off the boat. Seafood menu options will include sea bass, king scallops, lobster, skate wing, haddock, cod and hake with other menu items to include its award-winning pies, salads, vegetarian and vegan options and a range of desserts.

“Each of our restaurants differ in interiors but Harborne can expect something special,” adds Molnar.

The company is currently on the lookout for further locations in the Nottingham and Midlands areas.
