Top 10 UK bank holiday staycation destinations
The online travel firm say that three-out-of-four hotel searches for this bank holiday have been geared towards UK hotels while 12 of the top 20 are situated on the coast.
Coastal destinations are performing particularly well with low room availability in a number of places such as Skegness (0 per cent), Whitby (one per cent), Weymouth (one per cent) and Newquay (four per cent).
The places with the highest rise in prices this bank holiday are city destinations such as Edinburgh and Liverpool, the latter almost adding 50 per cent to hotel prices.
Denise Bartlett, UK public relations of Trivago, said that this is the second time this summer that there has been a strong trend towards staycations rather than travelling abroad, and she offered some advice to those who are yet to book a getaway.
“Despite the ambiguous weather conditions, UK holidaymakers are clearly hopeful for a sunny August bank holiday. Those still needing to book their hotel should consider destinations where prices remain low and availability remains high,” she said.
