Roberto Costa’s Fish Game restaurant in Canary Wharf has closed

Macellaio RC founder Roberto Costa has closed his Fish Game restaurant in Canary Wharf’s Wood Wharf development.

Launched last year, Fish Game was billed as an ‘ultra-seasonal’ restaurant that puts British fish and game centre stage.

The launch followed the success of Costa's Macellaio RC Italian steak concept, which has five sites in central London.

But the Water Street restaurant is understood to have ceased taking bookings and closed up to one month ago, with its website now stating that Fish Game is ‘not currently operating’.

The website also promises an update on what is happening at the site ‘as soon as we are back!’. It is understood that the site may be converted to a Macellaio RC.

Talking to Restaurant last year, Costa said that he had originally intended to bring Macellaio RC to Canary Wharf but was put off by the presence of steak restaurant rivals Hawksmoor and Rare Restaurants being close by (the latter has now closed its M restaurant).

In the same interview, Costa said that he hoped to launch further Fish Game restaurants.

Serving dishes including langoustine with rosemary, wilted samphire and pomegranate citronette; tigella with rabbit and its offals; and hare arancini with whisky ketchup, Fish Game combined influences from Britain and Italy with proteins coming from these shores and aromatics coming from the Mediterranean.
