Rockliffe Hall, the luxury hotel and golf resort which opened in Hurworth near Darlington last year, has appointed Laura Atkinson head sommelier for its fine dining restaurant Kenny Atkinson at the Orangery

Atkinson, 22, joins from wine merchants Corney and Barrow where she was office manager of its northern branch.

In her new role Atkinson will work with chef Kenny Atkinson to devise a wine list to match his dishes for when the restaurant opens later this month and will also be responsible for training and overseeing staff in the hotel's bar, cocktail lounge and drawing room.

She said: “I’m hoping that I can create an award winning wine list, which is both interesting and approachable and which will be recognised for its quality and individuality.

“Through my role at Rockliffe Hall, I’m hoping to spread the word about wine as well as to encourage more females, especially from a younger age, to work in the industry.”

Hotel Missoni in Edinburgh has also appointed Robbie Mitchell its new bar and restaurant manager, to oversee the operation of the hotel’s Bar Missoni and Cucina Italian restaurant.

Mitchell joins the hotel with experience working with Roy Brett, Rick Stein and Gary Rhodes, and most recently in the position of director/partner at Edinburgh bar Amicus Apple.

He said: “We have a great team on board who all share a passion for delivering the highest level of customer service as well as a determination to create the ultimate dining and drinking experience for guests. It’s great to be working within such a prestigious and busy hotel.”
